Prof. Aleš Ude

Head of Department of Automatics, Biocybernetics and Robotics, Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana

Prof. Aleš Ude received his diploma degree in applied mathematics from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia and his PhD in computer science from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. He is the head of the Department of Automatics, Biocybernetics, and Robotics at Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He has participated in several EU projects as principal investigator. Currently, he coordinates the ReconCycle H2020 project, where he leads an effort to develop a self-reconfigurable robotic cell for the recycling of electronic devices. Before, he was a coordinator of a Horizon 2020 project ReconCell. As a recipient of the STA postdoctoral fellowship he spent a number of years as a postdoctoral researcher in ERATO Kawato Dynamic Brain Project, Japan Science and Technology Agency. He also worked as invited visiting researcher at Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International Computational Neuroscience Laboratories, Kyoto, Japan. He has been working in the field of robot programming and robot learning for over twenty years, contributing especially to the fields of learning by imitation, learning by exploration, humanoid robotics and industrial applications of robotics.
